How did you meet / Engagement story.
In the summer of 2015 we went down to Cornwall on holiday. It was so cool we stayed in a bell tent with fairy lights and a blow up bed, our first glamping holiday and we loved it.
On the evening of August 3rd (my 25th birthday) Dan proposed!
It was a really windy evening on the beach and the waves were huge! We set up for a BBQ on the beach had some food and popped open the prosecco! The sun started to set and we were cosy in the blanket. Dan then attempted to get me to stand up by saying SELFIE! That failed I was too cosy in the blanket. So he challenged me to race him to the top of the Sand Dunes. That one worked! We stood for a little bit watching the sunset then I turned round and he was down on one knee and asked the question!
I stepped back so shocked with my hands over my mouth until Dan said Say something then and I said YES!
Why did you choose Polhawn Fort?
We both love the coast and have always dreamed of getting married on the beach.
The venue was a perfect choice! Along a beautiful coastline with the option of getting married on the clifftop or inside the fort looking over the beach!
How long did you have to plan your wedding?
18 months!
Did you have a colour scheme/theme?
Blush Pink for Bridesmaids and bright wild flowers.
Did you add any DIY elements to your day?
The jars were collected and made by myself using hessian and ribbon. We also used a pallet as the table plan we burnt the letters into the pallet for the order of service this did take a lot of time and effort! We collected cornish cider bottles from the cider farm and filled them with battery powered fairy lights. Printed pictures pegged along string with fairy lights also added some nice personal touches round the fort.
We printed pictures of beaches to name our tables and made our own favours which were small boxes of mini-eggs as it was Easter!
First dance/song?
Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
Funniest thing that happened?
That’s a difficult one! There was laughter all day long. The speeches were hilarious as well as super emotional. One of the highlights was one of the guests, very drunk trying to get out of the fort through a wardrobe!
What traditions did you include?
We stayed in separate rooms the night before. Dad walked me down the Aisle and we had a first dance. I even had a father/ daughter dance which I wasn’t expecting!
How did you feel before you walked down the aisle?
Very nervous. Extremely happy and overwhelmed with emotion.
Best tips / advice?
We would thoroughly recommend James Buss to organise the day he was amazing! He got on with everything from moving furniture, organising changeovers and just helping the day to flow smoothly.
Any amazing suppliers that you’d like to share?
Ruth Andrews Flowers. Sam Gibson Photography. Kerra’s catering and The Cake Hole all amazing!
Anything you’d change or wish you knew before?
When arriving at the fort I would have jobs ready for all friends and family written on a list! In all the excitement with everyone asking how can they help it can get a little stressful.
Our advice would be know what needs to be done the night before so you can relax as soon as possible! We ordered a food shop to come to the Fort and asked everyone to chip in this worked really well.
